Swivel bits produce a similar effect to a gag – they add pressure to the lips and the poll simultaneously. These bits are sometimes easier to use as they do not require additional cheekpieces or modified bridles in order to use them. Swivel bits are good for horses that tend to tip onto their forehand and get heavy by leaning on the hand. These bits give the rider additional ability to lift. The cheek design allows for side pressure which can also increase turnability. The swivel bits are in the same family as 2, 3, and 4-ring bits, but are generally less aggressive.
